OPERATION ABDUL

2024 medical mission to Mosul, Iraq

Meet 7-month old baby Abdul.

He was born with with severe birth deformities to his urinary tract. He resides in a small, once agricultural town in the district of Sinjar, near the Syrian border.

Abdul Wahab’s town, was decimated by the terrorist organization ISIS in 2014. The district is once again ripe with militias, and suffering from a severe drought.

Abdul Wahab’s father has no formal education. Unable to read or write, he’s employed as a seasonal laborer, earning the equivalent of five to seven U.S. dollars per day.

His wife, Abdul’s mother, takes care of her three children. Together, they share a three-bedroom home with eighteen extended family members.

Abdul Wahab’s mother had a difficult pregnancy with him but lack of nearby prenatal care, and their severe poverty, prevented her and her baby Abdul Wahab from getting the care they needed.

As a result, baby Abdul Wahab suffered his entire little life from birth defects until he came to the attention of our partner the Iraqi Institution For Development. The VRL team in New York reconnected with baby Abdul Wahab’s family while he was recovering in hospital, after a successful fundraiser.

Despite the excruciating suffering this baby had to endure at birth, the VRL team was still able to get a smile. Recover well and strong baby Abdul Wahab. We thank our generous donors, including Without Borders for helping us save this baby boy’s life.
