Open Door Exchange
Veterans Rebuilding Life contributed $10,000 to assist 100 disabled veterans transition out of homelessness. The funding was donated to Open Door Exchange (ODE), a grassroots charity operating in Long Island, NY. ODE will use the funds to furnish homes for disabled veterans who’ve recently secured stable housing.
32,882 American veterans experienced homelessness in 2024. More than half of them were living with a medical disability. According to the VA’s annual report, the suicide rate for homeless veterans is twice as high as veterans living in stable housing.
Veterans Rebuilding Life and Open Door Exchange have a history of teaming up to meet urgent community needs. In 2024, the two organizations furnished homes for newly resettled Afghan refugee families in New York City, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity. “We are deeply grateful to VRL. This donation will help us meet some of our most pressing needs providing new mattresses, and expanded delivery services to the families we serve.” said Ryan Haugstatter, of Open Door Exchange.

Open Door Exchange is among one of the very few nonprofit organizations to provide and deliver essential household furnishings to families in-need completely free of charge. VRL’s support of ODE’s mission will have a direct and tangible impact on the local community:
