OPERATION RAED

Sixteen-year-old Raed suffered a debilitating injury that left him unable to walk without pain. His torn ligament and a damaged meniscus. Adolescent knee injuries are typically treated quickly in the U.S. Left untreated, the condition may lead to joint deterioration and permanent disability.

But in Iraq years of conflict have strained hospitals, resulting in very limited access to specialized care. This was the case for Raed, who was unable to afford surgery. Without treatment, he risked living a life in chronic and disabling pain.

After reviewing his medical report, VRL approved full sponsorship of his surgery for $1,210.00 ensuring that financial barriers would not prevent him from receiving care. On November 4th, Othman successfully underwent knee and meniscus surgery. The procedure restored stability to his knee, allowing him to regain full mobility with proper rehabilitation.
