Memorial Day Award Ceremony

On May 31st, 2021 Veterans Rebuilding Life held a Memorial Day Ceremony at Calverton National Cemetary, on Long Island, New York. The ceremony honored the United States Marine Captain: Richard Bishop, a decorated Korean War veteran of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, known among historians as the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history. Captain Gerald Koval formally opened the ceremony with a reading of Captain Bishop’s Award Citation, detailing the acts of valor he took during the intense battle that claimed the lives of more than 10,000 Americans.

Captain Bishop received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor distinction, for his heroic actions taken under fire. Special thanks to the 6th Communications Battalion, Alpha Company Marines, who served as the ceremonial honor guard. Surviving members of the Bishop family were supported by attending representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense,  members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and decorated veterans from all branches of military service. Special thanks to Muna Fadhil Chung of the New York Film Academy, for documenting the ceremonial event, seen above.
