Afghanistan War Veteran Antonio Ingram, holding a new laptop provided by VRL as he begins his first semester of college this year.
By the time Antonio reached out for help, he had been unemployed for months, and was facing eviction from his Brooklyn home.

As a soldier in the United States Army, he served with honor during combat operations in Afghanistan. But like so many veterans returning from war, his homecoming told a familiar story—one marked by unemployment, eviction, and isolation.

He reached out to several veterans’ charities for assistance, but none offered tangible support. Recognizing the urgency of his situation, VRL intervened and provided direct services, prioritizing his need for housing. VRL’s team assisted Antonio with the registration process for the VA’s Homeless Veterans Assistance Program and connected him with the Jericho Project, VRL’s partner organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans secure stable housing.

VRL continued to support Mr. Ingram throughout the housing application process until he was approved for a new apartment. While awaiting his move-in date, VRL assisted Antonio in securing free storage through the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and provided legal support for a court proceeding to prevent eviction until his relocation.

VRL’s Program Coordinator, Damia December, remains deeply committed to Antonio’s case, continuing to provide support until he achieves lasting stability in housing and employment. Your donations make transformative stories like Antonio’s possible. Help veterans to rebuild their lives.
